2022

01 The Starting Point

Parents Inclusion Network is a charity based in Dumfries and Galloway. They bring parents and carers of disabled children together so they can support each other through shared experience, and they run family days, coffee mornings and training across the region. It is a small team doing a very big job.

02 The Real Problem

Their old website was no longer fit for purpose, and the pandemic meant more of the charity's services had to work online — fast.

Membership applications and event places were being handled by hand, which ate into time the team would far rather spend with families. Most parents were finding the charity on a phone, often in the middle of everything else in their day, so whatever we built had to be quick, clear and genuinely easy to use on a small screen.

2Manual processes moved online: membership and event bookings.
100%Built to work properly on a phone, where most parents find them.

03 Strategy

Applying The Copper Method

01

01. The Honest Health Check (Audit)

We went through the existing site with the team and asked what was actually taking up their week. The answer was admin: membership forms coming in on paper and event places being managed by hand. The website wasn't helping, and on a phone it was hard to use at all.

02

02. The Strategic Blueprint (Plan)

We mapped the two journeys that mattered most to a parent — becoming a member, and booking a place on a family day or training session — and designed both to take a couple of minutes on a phone. Everything else on the site was arranged around getting people to those two things.

03

03. The Build (Build)

We rebuilt the website from scratch, with online membership applications and a web-based event booking process built around how the charity actually runs its events. The team can see who has applied and who is coming without a spreadsheet or a phone call.

04

04. The Ongoing Partnership (Manage)

The charity is on a management package, so we keep the site secure, fast and up to date with their latest news and events. They send it over, we put it live — no logging in, no learning a system, no worrying about it.

04 Outcome

Admin Off Their Plate, Families Back On It

Parents can now join the charity and book onto an event from their phone in a couple of minutes, and the team can see who is coming without chasing anyone. We have looked after the site ever since, keeping the news and events up to date as they come in. That means nobody at the charity has to think about the website — they can get on with helping their members find support.

"We are over the moon with what they have produced. We are a small team running a charity in Dumfries and Galloway and we felt included and supported throughout the website build, and now in the maintenance. It's such a valuable resource to the charity. The value for money is excellent and customer service is outstanding!"
